Golden County Foods is a specialty manufacturer of frozen appetizer and side products. Golden County’s primary customers include large branded food companies, retailers (including mass merchants, dollar stores, club stores, convenience stores and retail grocers), foodservice distributors and restaurant chains. The Company’s products include battered and breaded snacks and appetizers, fried potato shell products, twice-baked stuffed potatoes, and other complementary products. Golden County’s strategy is to leverage its expertise in production and product development to drive continued growth in existing and new distribution channels.
Background to the Transaction
Founded in 1991, Golden County had been owned by a private investment group since 2002. In 2007, GCF began to evaluate a sale of the business to generate liquidity for its investors. Brazos engaged in dialogue with the ownership group to acquire the business. Attracted by the category trends in frozen snacks and appetizers, the opportunity to drive additional growth in retail and foodservice channels, as well as the prospects for making add-on acquisitions, Brazos closed the acquisition of Golden County in November of 2007.
